baby steps

At the beginning of the semester, I got lost looking for my Business and Professional Speaking class. I found myself in confusing part of our Energy Center, and a man asked if I was looking to try out for radio broadcasting, and that it is in the adjacent building. Being a Broadcast Journalism major with my ultimate goal to eventually have a career in a hip/hop SiriusXM satellite radio station, you can imagine my glee and eagerness to join.

I got a spot every other Wednesday at 6:00 pm. The difference between University radio and public radio, is there are obviously more restrictions. My preferred music selection has no place on public radio, let alone, at a school station.

I explained this to my brother-in-law, DJ Ray Monroe (name drop), and he suggested sticking to my roots. My entire family are musicians, my nephew (who happens to be a well known rapper in Albuquerque) and I are the only ones that care for hip hop, but by golly do we know our 70’s and 80’s rock. So until I find more hip hop/rap songs with acceptable lyrics and content, that is my playlist. Whoa is me.

Classic legends like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, etc… check it out if you can.

Wish me luck! Godspeed.
